Force who joined before 1862 I would urge that his service should count from 1855, the year of his actual enlistment, rather than from 1862. (signed) Alister, Treasurer

RELE 16 469 Anger 26 NOV 87,

Previous to the passing of Ordinance No. 9 of 1862, European Policemen who did not contribute to the Superannuation Fund were not entitled to pension. The Indian Force was not called on to contribute, so they were not entitled to pension.

Ordinance No. 7 of 1862 established pensions for all in the Police Force. Ex P.C. Abbass joined in December 1855 and remained till 5th June, 1887. If he is to count the whole of his service for pension, then he will have completed 31 years of service and will be entitled to an annual pension of $111, being 60/186 of his annual pay.

But, if his service for pension should commence from 1862, then he should count only 24 years of service and will be entitled to an annual pension of $89.
